Janet L.F. Smith & Associates - The principal

Janet Smith has provided strategic telecommunications expertise to healthcare, higher education, government and industry for more than 25 years as a telecom and network services director, telecom marketing director, and strategic telecom consultant. Janet is an independent consultant, not affiliated with or compensated by any vendor or service provider. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Society of Telecommunications Consultants (STC), the largest organization of independent communications consultants in North America.

As a telecom and network services director for 17 years, Janet orchestrated and managed numerous major projects that improved operations, enhanced customer service, and substantially reduced costs. That experience confirmed Janet's belief that voice and data communications are more than supportive utilities--but rather are powerful forces that can determine an organization's overall success in meeting highest-level objectives.

In five years with one of the world's largest telecommunications and Internet companies--Nortel--Janet headed the marketing team that developed the company's industry leading Centrex IP product. At Nortel, Janet supported large Centrex customers and worked closely with them to understand and interpret their requirements into new services.

Janet served as Director of Telecommunications and Network Services at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA where she merged the voice and data networking organizations. Prior to that she was Director of Telecommunications at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA.

She has presented at numerous industry conferences, most recently at ITPX, ACUTA, and STC. Janet holds a bachelors degree in Government from Bates College, Lewiston, Maine.
